HONDA F.A.Q'S

I bought a K&N kit with your jet kit in it, and I can't seem to get it right. I have the stock airbox, the new airfilter, and I have taken the spark arrestor out of the carb. I put the new needle in on the third groove from top, put the DJ142 jet and adapter in, I am in SC (below 3000ft). I ran it and the plug was still white(lean). I removed the 142 and installed a 146. Still lean, but has a touch of brown at very top of white part of plug. A friend at a dealership told me to move the clip on the needle down one more(4th groove from the top) now it runs rich with the 146 main. I forgot to mention that I have the airscrew 2.5 turns from seated. So, I put the needle back where it was and installed the next jet I had, (a 155). Now it is still showing signs of burning lean. What do I do? When I had the 146 in, it ran great, but it still showed sign of running lean. Can I turn the airscrew one way or the other to get it right. It seems to be on the verge of being right. My throttle response is good, with the 146 and it seems to pull harder in each gear. I just can't figure it out. Any recommendation would be great, I am at the end of my rope. Also, the screw I am talking about is on the underside of the carb in front of the float bowl, right? My wife has done something with the instructions that came with the kit, so now I am guessing.

Thanks, A distraught customer seeking guidance
Bruce

Bruce,

The reason you cannot get the color you are looking for on the plug is the fuel you are using. The fuel we use today is full of oxygenators and detergents. The oxygenators and detergents cause the plugs to burn very clean. If the 146 main gave you the best results that is the one I recommend using. The mixture screw is in the location that you mentioned. The mixture screw will only effect idle. If you have anymore questions feel free to either call or e-mail.
